Ingenious Busking introduction to performance course

The course

The Ingenious Busking introduction to performance course it is a two day intensive course. The course typically runs from 10am to 4pm, from Sat to Sun.

The purpose of the course is to prepare you to be part of the friendly team of Engineers that perform in events organised by Ingenious Busking. All trained Engineers are invited to perform as a team with support from us and never on your own - unless you really want to perform solo!

The course focuses on:

  • development of communication skills specially for dealing with hard-to-reach audiences
  • learning Engineering material for the performances
  • rehearsing the performance material
  • performance as a team with a live audience (with coaching and support from the trainers)

The sessions are mostly indoor with one outing for practice. The Saturday session is indoor and we only go out on Sunday to a public venue or in the street (weather allowing).

The course is a two day event and we recommend attendance of the full time table.

We are available for private bookings.

FAQ's

Q: Is there a fee for the course?
A: Yes. The first three courses were funded by the Royal Academy of Engineering. We are available for private bookings but we may also run a fourth event with a fee for individual participants.

Q: Do I have to be funny or have acting experience to attend this course?
A: No, all you are required is to be an Engineer willing to engage with the public. The aim of the course is not to turn you into an actor: it is to support you in delivering your message more effectively.

Q: What else should I prepare?
A: It would be great if you could gather images that have an engineering story until 7 days before the event. On the first day bring an engineering object and gather any facts and figures about Engineering that could surprise the public.
